Description
I purchased this rare and unique butterfly on the internet from a place called "Butterfly Utopia.com, they have such a wide variety of Unique Beautiful Butterflies from all parts of the world! I decided to photograph it in my photo studio sitting on top of an orchid flower which I purchased at my local Floral Shop. I wanted to bring out it's beauty the best way I could, showing with great detail what this butterfly is all about! The "Butterfly" Taenaris catops, also known as the Silky Owl (Four Eyed Round wing) originates from Indonesia, New Guinea and the surrounding Islands. It is in the Nymphalidae family. Eye spots on the underside of butterflies are quite common, but the Taenaris butterflies have incredible distinct and beautiful ones. The eye spots are even more beautiful in person, there are thin purple/blue circles that can barely be made out in this photo. Their wingspan can reach 75-95 mm (3" to 3 3/4"). A very beautiful and unique looking butterfly! I hope everyone enjoys viewing this as much as I did photographing it! It has won a couple of photo contests coming in First Place in one and Second place in another, a unique and beautiful butterfly everyone loved! My thanks to all of them that voted for my image! Thanks so much, Leslie F. Crotty

What a fascinating butterfly Leslie!! Thank you for sharing the info on it with us. I noticed, it doesn't seem to have little antennas? That orchid really brings out the color in those spots!! Beautiful!! f/v

SYLVIE, YOUR NOTION IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! I PURCHASED A WIDE VARIETY OF DIFFERENT BUTTERFLIES AND MOTHS FROM A PLACE ON THE INTERNET CALLED "BUTTERFLY UTOPIA". I PLACED THIS BUTTERFLY ON AN ORCHID FLOWER TO SHOW ALL IT'S BEAUTY AND UNIQUENESS! SOME ARE QUITE EXPENSIVE, OVER $100.00, BUT SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL! LES
