Description
The White Witch Moth is considered to be the largest moth in the world in terms of recorded wingspans of up to 12". Not much is known about this beautiful moth, except they can be found in Mexico, Central America and the Northern portion of South America. It is a very elusive species, besides having its long wingspan they also have other very distinctive qualities. Their wings are generally a creamy white but also can be a light brown. Black and brown lines zigzag, giving it a fairly regular pattern. Their very unique color and patterns help the White Witch Moth to blend in the trees and assortment of various flowers camouflaging them from any predators, mostly, which are bats. While it's abdomen is white with a black border, pockets can be found in the back of the abdomen, inside these pockets lie a pair of brushers that release a scent signalling the female readtness for mating. The female moth keeps her pockets closed tight until she is ready, then she opens her pockets and exposes her brushes. Males, downwind from her follow the scent and upon finding her expose their own brushes for a couple second's before proceeding to mate with the female moth. One of God's beautiful, unique amazing little creatures! Everyone should have the experience of seeing them close up and personal, it's something they will never forget! Thanks so much for stopping by! Leslie F. Crotty.
